Common questions
Here are a few practical answers about breathwork, sessions, pacing, and fit.
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is a supportive wellness practice that uses conscious breathing to support awareness, regulation, and connection. Sessions may help people feel more grounded, present, or attuned to their body, but experiences vary from person to person.
There’s no goal to “get somewhere” or have a particular kind of experience — this work emphasizes listening to your body rather than pushing for outcomes.
What is the difference between regulated breathwork and Integral Breathwork?
At Chance Wellness, “regulated breathwork” is the plain-language public description for the way I offer breathwork: grounded, paced, consent-based, and supportive.
My breathwork practice is rooted in Denis Ouellette’s Integral Breathwork teachings and carried forward with permission and respect for the lineage. I use “Integral Breathwork” to describe the method and lineage influence, while “regulated breathwork” helps new clients understand the safety-forward, practical style of support offered through Chance Wellness.
What can I expect in a session?
Each session begins with grounding and orientation so you know what’s coming and can settle in at your own pace. Breathwork is always offered as an invitation, not a requirement.
You’re welcome to pause, adjust, or rest at any point. Some people feel calm, some feel emotional, some feel very little at all — all of it is welcome.
This work is guided with care, consent, and respect for your pace.
Do I need prior experience with breathwork?
No experience is necessary. Sessions are designed to meet you where you are, whether you’re completely new or already familiar with breath-focused practices.
Is breathwork therapy?
No.
Breathwork is a supportive wellness practice and is not a substitute for therapy, medical care, or crisis support.
I do not diagnose, treat, or provide psychotherapy. If you’re seeking clinical care or mental health treatment, a licensed professional may be more appropriate support.
Who is this work best suited for?
This work tends to be a good fit for people who are open to:
- Moving at a gentle, steady pace
- Listening to their body’s signals
- Approaching growth with curiosity rather than force
- Valuing integration over intensity
Who might this work not be for?
This work may not be the right fit if you’re looking for:
- Intense or cathartic experiences
- Rapid emotional release
- Someone to push you beyond your limits
Breathwork is also not appropriate as a sole support if you’re currently experiencing acute distress or feeling unsafe. In those cases, connecting with professional or crisis resources is important.
What if I need additional support outside of sessions?
If you’re looking for mental health education, peer support, or community-based resources, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers free programs and a confidential helpline nationwide:
- 🌐 https://www.nami.org
- 📞 1-800-950-NAMI (6264)
- 💬 Text NAMI to 62640
These resources can be supportive alongside personal wellness practices.
What if I’m in crisis?
If you or someone you know is in immediate distress or crisis, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available in the U.S. by calling or texting 988, 24/7.
Am I in control during sessions?
Yes — always.
You are free to pause, adjust, or stop participation at any time. You’re never required to share personal details or continue an exercise that doesn’t feel right for you.
Your body leads the process.
How do I know if this is a good fit?
A free 30-minute Introductory Connection Call is available to talk through questions, intentions, and fit before committing to anything. There’s no pressure — it’s simply a space to connect and explore next steps.
Final note
This work is rooted in steadiness, presence, and companionship — you don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to rush.
